GREENVILLE — Last year, when The Band of Heathens co-founder agreed to play at the Mighty Mississippi Music Festival, Ed Jurdi knew he and his band mates were bringing their unique Texas sound to the place where blues music was born. What Jurdi didn’t know was they were about to perform live in the Hot Tamale Capital of the World.
Jurdi, who co-founded the band in 2005 with Gordy Quist, said he saw hot tamales at last year’s festival, and even read a little bit about the romance between the city and hot tamales, but, he had no idea the hot tamale was one of the Mississippi Delta’s — or Greenville’s —iconic dishes.
